Director of the Production Control Department at National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Ali-Mohammad Bosaqzadeh says his company has been in talks with German Lurgi GmbH for establishment of a polypropylene unit.
Bosaqzadeh told Shana that the unit will be established by
German Lurgi GmbH and Petrochemical Research and Technology Company (PRTC).
He said it will be the first leg of cooperation between
Lurgi and Iran.
He added that careful planning has been made in the NPC to
complete a careful value chain.
Earlier, the NPC Chief Marzieh Shahdaie had said the
Economic Council had licensed investment and establishment of a unit for
production of 120,000 ton of propylene from methanol.
She said the unit's production capacity will rise by 500,000
tons in light of cooperation with German Lurgi.
She added that the unit's production level will rise up to
120,000 tons this year.
According to the official, the NPC target for increase in
the polypropylene production in the PRTC is up to 500,000 tons a year and to
that end, talks were underway with foreign companies, including Lurgi.
Iran's nominal polypropylene production capacity was about
965,000 tons up to the year 1392 (2013-14) and increase in production of the
substance is pegged at about four million tons in the Sixth Five-Year Economic
Development Plan (2016-21).
The country's propylene production capacity should reach
about eight million tons by end of the 7th Five-Year Plan (2021-26).
